Biography
Mitch was born and raised in
Kansas with the exception of three years spent in
Nebraska and Colorado. As an adult, Mitch worked a wide
variety of jobs and changed majors in school before
settling on computer programming as a career. Mitch
worked a number of blue collar jobs, retail jobs, has
been self-employed, been unemployed, spent 4 years in
the US Navy and is a member of the Kansas Air National
Guard. After separation from the Navy with an honorable
discharge, he learned computer programming and worked in
that occupation from 1995 until elected in 2004. He has
the variety of work experience to make him a
representative who understands the situations and
struggles that Kansans face everyday in real life.
Mitch was married to Michelle Asher in 1985 and they had
their first daughter in 1991 while serving in the Navy.
They had three more daughters in '92, '94 and '96. Then
in September of 2005 they had a son. Michelle spent most
of her growing up years in Nepal and India, so she has
brought a unique perspective to family life, and
American life in general.
Mitch is a graduate of Hutchinson Community College (A.
A. - Music Education), Friend's University (B. S. -
Human Resource Management), and DePaul University (Post
Graduate Certificate - Computer Programming). He earned
several honors while serving in the Navy.
After spending approximately 8 years in the Chicago
area, Mitch and Michelle decided to return to the family
farm to raise their family. Family is a high priority
for Representative Holmes even during the Legislative
session. |
